Global “otaku economy” phenomenon has been created recently in response to the epidemic prevention; not only has the sales of home office and fitness equipment increased significantly, it also caused the trends of subscribing to online multimedia, gaming and online shopping, and this further drove the growth of demands for Content Delivery Network (CDN). According to the forecast of a report published by Deloitte & Touche in May this year, online streaming demands for videos and games will increase by 20% to 70%, and the global CDN market is expected to grow at a rate of 30% to 40% annually. 


When internet users browse websites, the webpages and application programs provided different types of contents; for example, HTML contents, images, videos, CSS, JavaScript and other contents generated from user interactions. These contents change from time to time, and other times they don’t change much; some of the contents get accessed by many users while others are seldom needed. 

The Content Delivery Network saves website contents temporarily on servers distributed all over the world so that when users want to access them, cached contents closest to them can be provided. Not only does this reduce the loading time of websites, it also reduces the amount of data provided by the main server, and therefore lowers the cost for bandwidth.

(Note: If websites want to go online and operate in the China region, not only do companies have to register locally, they must also apply for ICP (Internet Content Provider) authorization. In addition, if a company has multiple websites, the same process must be run for each website, and the ICP will expire after 5 years. The websites also need to be check annually; if there are any problems, the officials have the right to shut down the website or revoke the ICP. 

Most importantly, if the website content is operated in a province, municipality or autonomous region, the registration fee must be over RMB $1 million; and if you want to transmit the contents to other provinces or even the whole of China, it will cost at least RMB $10 million. It is quite a heavy burden for enterprises whether for the application process or funds.) 

Currently, Near China CDN companies that cooperated with MileCDN include CDNetwork and Wangsu; under normal circumstances two or more CDNs will be dispatched through AI Load Balancing to help enterprises achieve the best speed optimization in the China region. However, if emergencies occurred for these two CDNs, MileCDN can also use CN2 nodes to make up the transmission performance of dynamic resources. 


Content service provides in China usually seek solutions that have both with and without ICP plans, in which after websites with ICP chooses to use MileCDN CN2 node dispatch, its original 780 milliseconds delay time was successfully reduced to approximately 400 milliseconds; it improved by approximately 49%.

For another website without ICP, there are chances of packet loss for data transmission due to the firewalls in China, resulting in longer delay times and sometimes services couldn’t even run. After optimization with MileCDN, the delay time dropped significantly from 900 milliseconds and maintained at approximately 600 milliseconds, reducing the delay time by approximately 33%.
